Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is IVF?
The most prevalent type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) is in vitro fertilisation (IVF), which is used to generate an embryo by avoiding specific causes of infertility, such as mild sperm abnormalities in men and fallopian tube or ovulation irregularities in women.
During IVF procedure, a woman’s eggs are surgically extracted and fertilised in a lab by mixing them with sperm from a partner (or donor). The fertilised egg, or embryo, is then surgically put back into the woman’s womb after two to five days of growth.
How long does IVF take?
The IVF cycle itself takes around four weeks, the length of a normal ovulation cycle. Sometimes these steps are split into different parts and the process can take longer. Treatment begins only after initial fertility testing is completed. Fertility testing often includes assessing your ovarian reserve or egg quality, uterine cavity evaluation, and semen analysis.
What causes infertility?
For both women and men, infertility can be caused by a variety of causes. Lack of regular ovulation blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, or recognised medical disorders such as endometriosis or PCOS are the most common causes for women. Poor-quality sperm is the most common cause of infertility in men.
Are there any side-effects expected during treatment?
There are no major side effects with IVF. When the ovaries are overstimulated by fertility medicine used in IVF or other fertility therapies, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, or OHSS, can occur. OHSS symptoms are often mild to moderate, with mild to moderate pain, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhoea, and bloating. If you experience any of the symptoms listed above after receiving a hormone injection, you should contact the clinic for assistance and monitoring.
How soon after treatment can I take a pregnancy test?
Before taking a pregnancy test, we recommend waiting at least 14 days after the embryo transfer. Many people who have had treatment have heard of ‘the two-week wait.’
What is difference between IVF and ICSI?
Both are in vitro fertilisation methods, with the sole difference being the process of fertilisation at the embryology lab.
In IVF, the sperm and egg are allowed to fertilise in a small petri dish, which is remarkably similar to how fertilisation occurs naturally. When sperm parameters are normal, IVF is used.
ICSI is a type of fertilisation used primarily for male factor fertility, in which each egg is injected with sperm using a fine needle. When the sperm parameters of count, motility, and morphology are out of whack, this is indicated.
What is the gap period required between 2 unsuccessful cycles?
Fresh cycles should start at least after 2 menstrual cycles, while frozen cycles should start at least after 1 month
Are IVF injections painful?
In the vast majority of cases, IVF injections are relatively painless. At the same time, it’s critical to remember that pain is a subjective experience. It differs from one person to the next. This indicates that someone who is more sensitive might be more uncomfortable than someone who is less sensitive.
When should I opt for IVF?
IVF was created for women who had blocked fallopian tubes, and it is still the treatment of choice in these cases. It’s also used when additional diseases including endometriosis, male factor infertility, and unexplained infertility are present and no medical cause for infertility can be determined. Our professionals will examine your medical history and assist you in selecting the most appropriate therapy and diagnostic procedures for you.
What effect does age have on a woman's infertility?
Women have about 2 million eggs in their ovaries when they are born. Every month, around 11,000 eggs perish before a girl enters puberty. As a result, a woman’s egg supply in her adolescent years is limited to around 300,000 to 400,000. Every month, roughly 1000 eggs are used from this point forward. This has nothing to do with birth control, pregnancy, hormone production, health, living a healthy lifestyle, or taking nutritional supplements. When a woman approaches menopause, she no longer has any viable eggs.
